The Xavier University Computing and Information Services Office (CISO) is tasked to develop a more robust University computing and information backbone to improve teaching, research, and social outreach and contribute to the transformation of the University into an important learning and information hub of Northern Mindanao. CISO aims to harness information and communications technology to improve and enhance the core processes of the University and encourages the University community to start learning and using the power of computing and information technology.

CISO performs the following roles/ functions:
 
1.       Engages in the development, the ongoing operation and maintenance of production information systems and infrastructures
2.       Acts as an adviser to users throughout the University on computer-related matters
3.       Serves as a catalyst for improving operations through system enhancements or new systems development
4.       Coordinates data and systems integration throughout the University
5.       Establishes standards, policies, and procedures relating to computers and information processing
6.       Evaluates and selects computer and network hardware and software
7.       Conducts end-user education, information and awareness program and operates a help desk for computing and information services.
 
The CISO provides the following services to the University administrators, faculty, staff, and students:

1.       Computing and Network Services (CNS)
 
1.1    Maintain/ support WAN, LAN and PABX
1.2    Maintain/ support server hardware and software
1.3    Maintain/ support phones, voice mail, telecommunications
1.4    Manage network security
1.5    Remote connectivity
1.6    Backup systems
1.7    Database administration
1.8    Voice and data contract management
1.9    Web and application server management (e.g. HTTP, MAIL, DB SQL)
 
2.       Management Information Services (MIS)
 
1.1    Understand University IS requirements
1.2    Improve University processes
1.3    Select, install, integrate, support, and upgrade University application packages
1.4    Design, develop, test, and support custom solutions
1.5    Develop and maintain University data modeling, data dictionary, and data coding standards
1.6    Support ad-hoc information requests from the existing databases
 
3.       End-user Support Services (ESS)
 
3.1    Operate IS/ IT help desk, take calls, monitor requests, prioritize, track
3.2    Perform ‘first line of defense’ PC software and hardware problem diagnostic and troubleshooting
3.3    Conduct user awareness, orientation, and training
3.4    Support Web Environment
3.5    Manage service agreements, software licenses and inventory
3.6    Preventive Maintenance: Repair and maintain PCs, printers & other peripherals
3.7    Install and upgrade PC software and hardware including desktops, notebooks, palms and printers
