VISION

The Xavier University Center for the Advancement of Teaching (XUCAT) aims to provide relevant, updated, and well-designed teacher-training programs, extend technical assistance, and conduct research for basic and higher education institutions in the country, especially those in Mindanao, for the pursuit of truth and excellence in teaching.
As the university’s unit responsible for promoting and facilitating the advancement of teaching, XUCAT coordinates and organizes the university’s initiatives and projects (which today include technology) that are being undertaken to improve the quality of education in the country.
To attain its vision, XUCAT provides the following services to various educational institutions:

  4. Other Education Program Evaluation
XUCAT also seeks to establish formal and long-term partnerships with various sectors such as business groups, national and local government agencies, public and private education institutions, NGOs and churches, among others, that leads to continuing enhancement of the teaching-learning process in the country particularly in Mindanao.

XUCAT Offers the following services/programs which may be availed in any order, or in any combination, according to the needs of the requesting party

  1. Ignatian Spirituality in Education and Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (1 day)
 
  1. Elements of Excellent Teaching (Mastery of Subject Matter, Planning and Organization, Instructional Skills, Questioning Skills, Classroom Management, Effective Communication Skills, Rapport with Students, Use of Instructional Materials) (1 day)
 
  1. Theories and praxis of teaching and testing in all levels
 
3.1 Problem-Based Learning (Constructivist Theory) (1 day)
3.2 Learning Outcomes and Instructional Objectives (including Preparation of Table of Specifications and Bloom’s Old & Revised Taxonomy)(1 day)
3.3 Writing of Syllabi, Module, Unit of Work and Grading System (1 day)
3.4 Construction of teacher-made tests and administration (1 day)
3.5 Rubrics and Affective Assessments (1 day)
3.6 Percentile Ranks and Standardizing Test Scores (including transformation and interpretation) (1 day)
3.7 Concepts of reliability, validity and predictive power of tests, etc. (1 day)
3.8 Performance and Authentic Assessments, Portfolio and Informal Assessments (1 day)
